Tim Cook

I finished reading the book Tim Cook: The Genius Who Took Apple to the Next Level by Leander Kahney. It was an interesting read. The book focused on Cook's role at Apple and less on his personal life because Cook is a very private person. I was very interested in reading the book because Cook is an industrial engineer by training, which is also my training.

You could see from the book that in life you just have to take risks and hope that they pay off. Cook left a secure job to join Apple, which was going through a tough time, and it paid off in retrospect. With his background as an industrial engineer, Cook was able to bring some orders into Apple's supply chain. This was one of the major impacts he made while Steve Jobs was still alive. After the death of Jobs, many did not expect Apple to survive and this was because of how visionary Jobs was and also the difference in personality between Cook and Jobs.

Under Cook's leadership, Apple became the first trillion-dollar company. Cook also had a human side to his leadership style, taking on important causes such as environmental sustainability, diversity and inclusion, and user privacy.

I also cannot ignore his work ethic. He has a great work ethic, and it was nice to be reminded again of how important a good work ethic is to success in life.
