Nikola Tesla

I read the autobiography of Nikola Tesla, after whom the famous electric car company of Elon Musk is named. Here is a short summary of his life.

Nikola Tesla (1856–1943) was a Serbian-American inventor, engineer, and futurist known for his contributions to electrical engineering and his visionary ideas. Born in Smiljan, in the Austrian Empire (modern-day Croatia), he studied engineering and physics before emigrating to the United States in 1884.

Tesla briefly worked for Thomas Edison but soon parted ways due to conflicts over electrical systems. He became a leading advocate for alternating current (AC), which eventually triumphed over Edison's direct current (DC) in the "War of Current". His work on AC power transmission laid the foundation for modern electricity distribution.

Tesla held over 300 patents and pioneered technologies in wireless energy transmission, radio waves, X-rays, remote control, and even early robotics. He envisioned wireless communication and free energy, but many of his ideas were never fully realized due to financial struggles.

Despite his brilliance, Tesla spent his later years in relative obscurity, living in a New York hotel, feeding pigeons, and continuing his research until his death in 1943. His contributions to science and technology remain invaluable, and he is often regarded as one of history’s greatest inventors.

In his book I was able to get a glimpse of his work ethic, which I loved. Work ethic is a recurring theme I see in most autobiographies I read, especially those of Americans. You never know where life is going to take you, and that is why we should always hope for the best by doing our best in whatever we find ourselves doing.

Thanks for stopping by.
