Bob Marley Bassist Aston Barrett

My dad's love for reggae is one of the influences I have from him. Growing up, we had documentaries on famous reggae artists and of course my dad's favorite, Bob Marley. I remember my dad organizing reggae concerts for the youth of our community and it was always a wonderful event.  I love Bob Marley's music and I think he is the greatest reggae artist of all time and he is the inspiration why I started playing the bass guitar. Reggae is a genre of music that has a heavy bass line and the man who had a great influence on Bob Marley's sound and music arrangement was Aston Barrett a.k.a. Family Man.

Aston "Family Man" Barrett (1946–2020) was a Jamaican bass guitarist and a key member of Bob Marley and the Wailers. Known for his deep, grooving basslines, he played a crucial role in shaping reggae music. Alongside his brother, drummer Carlton Barrett, he helped define the Wailers' signature sound. Aston also worked as a producer and arranger, influencing numerous reggae artists. His contributions made him one of the most respected bassists in the genre.

I am currently working on trying to play an entire Bob Marley album Uprising and every time I learn a new song from the album I am always fascinated by the rhythm and skill of Aston Barrett and I will say he was truly a genius in the truest sense of the word. I hope you listen to any of Bob Marley's music and appreciate the artistry.

Thanks for stopping by.
