German Bread Culture

I have always loved bread. Growing up, I always looked forward to when we would have bread for a meal. I remember my mom sending me to buy freshly baked bread from the community bakery. Sometimes, if I was lucky, I would get it hot from the oven.

Germany is known for beer and bread. I find it interesting that the bread here in Germany is different from the bread I knew growing up. I must also say that while in my home country, good bread is known for how soft it is, this is not the case with German bread, which can be hard.

Bread in Germany is a culture. Most people I know like to get their daily bread fresh from the bakery in the morning. I also find it interesting that because of the texture of the bread, you need a special machine to cut the bread, and you can find one in almost every German home.

I do eat German bread from time to time, but only when it is offered to me and not necessarily when I buy it myself. I love my "normal" bread, which the Germans call a sandwich.

Thanks for stopping by.
